Botanical Name:  Agave macrocantha

Native Name:  Amul

Height/Physical Description:  1 to 2 feet in height and 2 to 4 feet wide.  Blue-gray leaves with sharp black tips.

Use:  Food source.  The flower stalk was edible.  Fiber source:  Agave has very strong fibers that were used to make cording and twine to create several items such as nets, shoes, mats, bowstrings and snares.
Agave thorns were useful for basket making, sewing needles and tattooing.

Preparation:  The flower stalks were parboiled to release bitterness then dried.
